1 THING I’M DOING

PRIORITISING SLEEP

Getting adequate sleep is one of the easiest things we can all do to look after our health. Sleep is critical for achieving optimal health and helping us increase our energy, cope with stress, improve our focus, mood, metabolism, heart health, and overall longevity. Adults should sleep 7 – 9 hours a night so it’s time to switch off Netflix, put down your phone and tuck into bed. Zzzzzzz……

2 THINGS I’VE LEARNT

FOODS CAN PROTECT AND IMPROVE YOUR EYESIGHT

Some of the most important nutrients for eye health include lutein, zeaxanthin, meso-zeaxanthin, astaxanthin, anthocyanins, animal-based omega-3 fats and vitamin C.

Foods rich in beneficial lutein include egg yolks, spinach, avocado and broccoli; blackcurrants and bilberries also contain important antioxidants for vision health.

AVOID BLUE LIGHT
The light emitted by our screens, be it our TV, phone, computer, or iPad, is a blue light that generates reactive oxygen species (ROS). This has been shown to harm our vision and possibly lead to age-related macular degeneration, amongst other things.

A solution for this is to wear blue-blocking glasses after sundown or better still, eliminate the use of screens entirely after sunset. This will also help improve your sleep (see point 1 above) so a win, win win.

3 THINGS TO EXPLORE

THE MOST IMPORTANT INVESTMENT
Is us. The most important thing we can do is invest in ourselves. Be it our physical, emotional, mental or spiritual health – nothing is more important than ensuring we’re in the best state possible, to go forth in this world.

ENHANCE SLEEP
Two things that have shown to improve our sleep quality is temperature and light. Try and keep your room on the cooler side and keep it as dark as possible.

JUST START
Start slow. Start small, Start privately, Start publicly. Whichever way is best for you, just start.
